Her last foal I'm assuming was the AP Indy yearling filly since they say 10 foals including that one. She's got laminitis but I thought I'd heard her physical condition, esp. with respect to foundering, was a constant battle every year to the point that she didn't raise her own foals. I'm guessing that they figured they wouldn't be able to get another foal either because her body couldn't take it and they'd lose the mare or even if she made it they'd lose the foal, so might as well let her just hang out while they focused on Toussaud's health which is much easier to do when she's not pregnant.

a few years ago my good friend Jason Mamakos promise me that he would take an eye photo of toussaud's eyes, as Jason had a friend that work at the farm where Tousssaud was stabled.
I never received the pictures and before Toussaud passes away, there is much to learn from her eye photos. Blue hen producers have the characteristics in their eyes that separate them from a mediocre producers. If someone on the farm is reading this post, could you please take photos of Toussaud's eyes thanks Louis.

hello Heidilady...hi lous finochio
Toussaud...what an oh so VERY special thoroughbred.
Respectfully louis...what "characteristics" (your word) would you suggest that the blue hen producers have that "mediocre producers" (your words) might not (or do not) have.
Is there something specific you look for?
Best

Hi FOS: The iris holds the key to whether a mare will be a superior producer or medicore producer. It runs in families of great producers stalllions and mares.
When you look into their eyes, the iris of great producers will be 3 dimensional and will have a cracked rough appearance that is broken up. The iris of a medicore producer will be smooth with no peaks and valleys.
After you look at many Tb, you will see the difference between the iris of a great producer and a medicore producer.

hi louis finochio
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Have you ever been surprised (by what you saw) when doing your iris evaluations/observations?
Best.

When I started looking into the eyes 45 years ago, I was looking at the areas of the eyes that had no significence. Its was after I compared the eyes of medicore producers to those eyes of great producers that I found what I described in my last post.
When I started this eye search I stumbled many times, but I had the determination to go further in my search and it paid dividends.

Oh I was hoping for just one more foal, but since there wasn't one this year I kind've suspected Toussaud's broodmare days were over in 2006. She always had founder issues and had rubber mats in her stall to stand on. She's just one of my favorite mares and I hope she can now enjoy a wonderful retirement with her goat friend Liz at Juddmonte. Well done Toussaud!!!
