Jockey Club Revenues

Postby madelyn » Fri Apr 25, 2008 1:19 pm

I got to thinking the other night after I paid for the registration of an '07 filly, I wonder what they do with the money?

If 35k TB's are registered annually in the US, and no one misses a deadline, that give the Jockey Club an annual budget of $7 million. Does anyone know where that money goes?

Board members salaries for one, maintaining the DNA record base and the genetic testing to verify parentage for another.

Also rent on offices in Lexington and New York City, which must be VERY costly.

Couldn't find anything about on budget on their website. Since it is a private by-invitation organization, that doesn't surprise me. The "Jockey club family of companies" looks like it can pull in some bucks, though, considering that everything is on computer now.

I must say that people gripe about them, but ever since they moved to KY, I've always found them polite and quick. When I used to have to call NY, it was a nightmare and I had to get up about 4am to get through from CA.
