They were so quick to villify Saez on Eight Belles..... figure they would have the decency to commend KD for not dropping down on BB and whipping him 8-10 times when it was obvious he was done on the turn. Seems a bit of hypocrisy from PETA members who were only too happy to point out the supposed seedy side of racing regarding Eight Belles.
BB simply had nothing in the tank for whatever reason... perhaps a multitude of reasons. Much like when Seattle Slew went to California BB was a 'cooked horse' with nothing in the tank when called on. It happens in all athletic endeavors from time to time but is perhaps more shocking and obvious in horse racing because of the short duration of the race itself. We've all seen a heavily favored football team not show up for a game for whatever reason and get taken to the wood shed. Fortunately, the coach has 4 hours to think about what to tell the press while owners and trainers have seconds to comprehend what has just transpired in a short couple of minutes, often with a shocking outcome as was the case this past Saturday.
Lets keep in mind BB had put together 5 dominating performances before coming up empty including dominate performances in the Derby and Preakness. He's an awfully nice horse whether one likes his connections or not.
Any Kudos for Desormeaux from PETA?

Yeah right...PETA say good job to K D????
To them:
A) It was abuse to trailer him there
B) It was abuse to LOCK him in a CELL for 23 hours a day
C) It was abuse to put _________ (insert saddle, bit, shoes, ect ect here) on him.
D) It was abuse to ride him in the heat or ride him period.
E) It was abuse to have the NY state anthem sung by that skinny kid piped so loud
F) It was abuse to have Dutrows arm pits within 100 feet of him.
okay maybe I do side with PETA on the last two
, but the day I hear them commend anything about horse racing will be the same day you'll find ice cubes in ..... um well a very hot place.

Idiots...
Who is this Larry Jacobs and how dare he impersonate Larry Jones as the trainer of Eight Belles???

It wasn't about horses and it wasn't PETA but I had the distinct displeasure to deal with a very similar organization on a professional level regarding alleged abuse to exotic animals. I came away from that experience realizing that zealots don't care about the truth, they certainly don't care about the animals other than as a theoretical construct and some are so cynical that they care only for their own fundraising.
In fact, after working with my client for over a year under false pretenses (as a mole) and being "horrified" that entire time of his "abuse" of the animals, their first inclination was not to go to the district attorney or animal control or the police but to call a press conference in Beverly Hills and update their website with the young lady's description of what she supposedly saw. That's right --no undercover photos, videotape or audio just incredibly overwrought prose and a Paypal button.
It kills me when these folks get any press at all.

What concerns and shocks me is how powerful these orginizations are with Congress. Congress kow-tows to the whims of these radicals like no other and few legislators have the spine to stand them down. Agriculture is up against it and nonsensical legislation is often enacted or rulings handed down that are uncalled for i.e. meat recalled because of the way animals were handled on the way to slaughter costing consumers tens of millions in hidden costs.... and ending horse slaughter is proving to be a costly idea to the industry as there is no bottom for horses anymore driving the value of said animals to nothing with many now being abandonded etc.
