Attention Stallion Owners

Postby Roguelet » Fri Sep 19, 2008 5:01 am

It's that time of year again... here's a shameless beg for season donations.

ITOBA is currently finalizing the details on an exciting new stallion seasons auction related stakes bonus program that will go into effect with this year's auction. I will be posting more details as they are finalized, but meanwhile I wanted to start spreading the word so those of you who only donate to one or two auctions might consider donating to ITOBA's.

If one or more seasons to a stallion are donated to the ITOBA stallion seasons auction, that stallion will be eligible to participate in this stakes promotion.

In addition to the stakes promotion, there are several other changes that will be made this year. Since details are still being finalized, I don't want to say TOO much yet, but I will share that ITOBA plans to hold our auction on a different site this year, not Starquine. The site we are looking at using will get a TON of advertising and our auction will coincide with a major event that will bring amazing amounts of traffic to that site. Also, on this site, we can post a virtually unlimited amount of pictures, pedigree and family information, and even video! So, your stallion will get a lot of advertising exposure AND be eligible for the stakes promotion if you donate a season to ITOBA.

As an added bonus to owners of Indiana stallions, ITOBA will take 10% off of the final listing price of any order placed for the 2009 Indiana Thoroughbred Stallion Directory for a stallion who has at least one donated season to the auction.

I will be sharing auction details as they are finalized; meanwhile here is a link to a donation form: http://www.itoba.com/2009%20Season%20Do ... 20Form.htm And for Indiana stallion owners, here is a link to the stallion directory order form: http://www.itoba.com/2009%20Stallion%20 ... 20Form.htm And for those who are interested in being included in the Business Directory portion of the 2009 Indiana Thoroughbred Stallion Directory, here is a link to that form: http://www.itoba.com/Business%20Directo ... 20Form.htm

I would also be happy to fax or mail forms by request.

I will be updating the ITOBA web site constantly about the auction, the directory, our upcoming sales, etc. so check often for the latest info: www.itoba.com

Thanks!

Roguelet, will there be any other KY stallions this year? Usually there are quite a few?

As the stakes program is new - this needs to be highlighted more to the stallion farms - especially in KY for young stallions under $10k who will need early stakes success to remain viable. We get so many requests for donated seasons that the forms just pile up until we have a chance to go through them. Each program varies widely as to the benefits to the stallion (restricted stakes, split income generated, etc) that it is hard to keep it straight.

I would, humbly, suggest calling the farms as your deadline approaches and speaking with the nominations manager. Explain the stakes program so they know the benefit - especially if there will be a 2 yr old stakes race - that is KEY!

JMO, of course.

Yes, we have been promised several other stallions, including some KY stallions, and we are just getting started with donation solicitations so that list will absolutely grow quite a bit... we held off really going after seasons this year until we had much of the stakes bonus program details ironed out. We'll be getting on that now (in between the upcoming sales and stallion directory and everything else... I really need an assistant! )

I don't understand the whole donation scenario here. What then is the money used for? Are you guys donating it to some sort of rescue or something? :?

So, if I breed to a stallion that is eligible, my foal is eligible even if I didn't buy the season through the auction?

Yes, as long as the eligibility requirements are met, any foal sired by that stallion that year can be nominated to the program.

I read the link.
So if the stallion doesn't stand in Indiana the foals are still eligible? If the stallion produces a horse that wins a Itoba stakes race the owner of the stallion gets a 10% bonus of some kind?
Well that sounds alright. Nothing to loose really.

Any stallion standing anywhere can become an eligible sire, then that stallion's Indiana-bred offspring are eligible for nomination to the program.

It's a good deal for out of state stallions, as we have MANY Indiana bred foals born every year that are NOT Indiana sired. Broodmares come in all the time who are in foal to stallions in other states, and those foals become Indiana breds.

I, personally, have an Indiana-bred weanling standing in my own field who is sired by a NY stallion, so it's not even just the stallions standing in surrounding states that can benefit from this. We have mares coming to our sale in foal to stallions in FL, PA, MI, etc... you never know when one of your stallion's foals will wind up being an Indiana bred; and this ensures that whenever that does occur, that foal is eligible for the program, and you, as season donor, are eligible for the bonus.
