Sad sign of the times

Postby Bohemia » Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:19 am

A friend was at New Holland on Monday and said there was a pen filled with Thoroughbred yearlings ... not there to be sold, just to be sent to Mexico. That makes me very, very sad.

I also saw that they were sold for $20 each!

Seriously.........that's crazy. Who is over-breeding like that and what made them think that was a good idea??? At $20 a piece, they had multiple, multiple other options. That probably didn't even cover the cost of his gas to get them there.

My guess, someone is shutting down their operation, just doesn't care anymore and is heading out of town.

Achinjrt, were you there? If so, any idea where they came from?

There is a thread about the yearlings on Alex Brown racing. I do not believe that they know who dumped them, but the party that was there was past disgusted! I am in Arizona - heading for Stanford KY next month for retirement with my Bucket List yard ornament - Cute Show - a Secretariat daughter!

I feel so sorry for those poor yearlings. It is a good thing I am not closer to New Holland or else I would be broke and have a pen full of yearlings in my yard.

Holy S$#T!!!!
That is very up setting to say the least. Did they go to Mexico or did the person who got them for $20 take them home?
I guess it is better than them starving to death somewhere in a field or locked in a stall. :( :( :( :( :(
There is no possible way I could go to that auction. I could not handle it. :( all at the same time.

I'm on the phone w/Christy (AC4H) right now- she told me about this while speaking to her while she was New Holland on Monday-

There were approx. 15 TB yearlings. They sold for $20.00 on up. Some were bought by other dealers and others went to private buyers (private homes). She's telling me now- the fancier ones (those with chrome/height) sold first and sold for more money- the smaller/plain type ones sold for much less (as low as $20).
