New Jersey Thoroughbred Breeders get s#@*ed

Postby lilli » Wed Dec 03, 2008 9:45 am

Last night meeting of the New Jersey Thoroughbred Breeders Association announced that there really wasn't any real monies available to fund the breeders award for this year. With any luck, they should be able to cough maybe half the awards. Monmouth Park and Meadowlands were able to fully fund the NJ bred purse enhancement to NJ bred restricted races, but the breeders were told last night, that 90 million dollars from the Casinos in AC was only for purses at the tracks.
Anyone else out here disturbed by this?

I was there and what I heard was that the TBA is going to make every effort to pay 100% of the awards no matter how long it takes into 2009. What concerns me is the total lack of commitment from this state's governor to support horse racing and even more importantly to make sure that the contract between the casino authority and the NJSEA did not provide funding for breeders' awards, only purses.

Yikes, I thought we had it bad when the BREEDERS association gave a large percentage of our breeders and owners awards to the track president.

I sure hope it works out for the breeders in NJ, I know in our situation the breeding industry has died a long, slow, miserable death.

Good luck, I would be interested to hear the outcome.

Well ; guess it was a good idea to move our mares to Pa. after all. I wish Cody would run for Governor ... problem solved !

disturbed is not what I'm feeling
pissed off would be closer to what I'm feeling
I drove an hour and a half to have dinner. (not a cheap meal at a resaurant that is not set up for meetings) in a OTB outlet. NIce place to hold it!! They could hve skipped the meal and sent me some money.

To tell us that they didn't have the money to pay us, but promised that we would get it eventually.

I have called repeatedly since last winter, when I started reading that they were having trouble getting a contract signed. Mike kept reassuring me that everything was ok and that it would be signed.
When I called looking for the Monmouth money,I was told that they were only doing one check for all the money this year and it would be mailed mid Dec.
They have known they had a problem since last summer. It would have been nice if they let the breeders know.
I now have spent money that I'm not going to get.

I'm still seeing red.

If anyone reading this is a breeder in NJ please call your state representive and ask for their help in trying to get this resolved,
remind them we help keep NJ green
thanks for leting me vent

If only a few call they can ignore you, but if you get friends and family your county ag agent, farm bureau and local representives to call, the noise is louder and harder to ignore.
