Taken today....the paint behind him is Mocha who led me and a few others on a wild goose chase when he got loose (he slipped by me and Mav when I was putting Mav back in the paddock.

I would have written more, but I was busy trying to get ready for a trip to Charlottesville, VA last night. I was dog tired from being at the barn all day...but loved being there.

As for Mocha, the wiley paint slipped passed me and Mav when I was returning Mav to the paddock. The gate got away from me and WHOOSH! There went Mocha. He ran around for 10 minutes which felt like an eternity. The farm owner ran out and helped me contain Mocha to an area near the paddock. He gave us a scare when he lost his footing and crashed onto his side but he was OK. The cavalry came with grain and coaxed Mocha into the paddock. My riding instructor said Andy and I needed to think like horses to get Mocha back into the paddock. In hindsight I should have held onto Mav and left the gate open for Mocha to come back to his pasture pal. Mav, during all this time, calmly watched his friend buck and snort outside the field...

To say the least, I was shook and was worried Mocha hurt himself when he went down. But he's OK, I'm OK (Sue asked if he had knocked me down to get out--no, just me being tired and slow). Made a rousing end to my day at the barn.

Looks like a beautiful place. I still think you should come ride Mark sometime, he loves carting beginners around.
Make sure you turn the horse around to face you at the gate before you turn him loose in the field. Doing it any other way could get you killed.

It is a nice place Laurie...it's nestled right at the Anne Arundel/Calvert county lines.

Thanks for the advice. I'll heed it when I'm taking Mav back to the paddock.

And as for Mav...he's in the All Breeds Database. His full name is Driftin Maverick. He's got TB in his ped...which tickles me to no end. Raise a Native, Exclusive Native, Noholme, Man O' War way back. On his QH side he traces to Wimpy and Leo.
