Steriods again

Postby Roger » Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:55 pm

My son was talking to a track vet last week about steriods and when they will be tested for. The vet said that it was his understanding that in Texas, they would be illegal in January, but that the state would not test for them until Lone Star opens in April. Have any of you heard anything about what your state plans to do.

OUr state, NV. doesnt plan on doing anything. They are too lazy. I contacted our State vet, Our Senator Harry Reid who doesnt care. Literarly I have to letter. Hes a duffus.
Here they are a pack of lazy bums that dont care about the horses that run here. I have stories that I could tell all day long,,

From what I have been told, you should have given your last shot of steroids on 10/30/2008. That is when Jr. gave our horses there last shot of anything banned starting 1/1/2009

ditto. How dumb. That's like saying we're going to put up speed limit signs , but there's no cops, but we KNOW you'll abide. BS.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

I suspect steroids have been one of the least offensive drugs in the Lone Star State in the recent past.

Glad they will be banned, and all will be on same field. Is it enforceable? Would like to see crackdown on EPO and pain masking. Wish I thought TX racing would work harder on medication testing, but with the racing scene in such a mess, where is the money for that?

I also often wonder if the bigger stables get a wink and a nod, just to keep filling the races.

Oops, I knew or forgot some people have problems facing reality. I do what it takes to compete, I am not the one who started the problem, and when everyone else plays with the same ball and bat, I'll do the same.

Enjoyed my very short stay again.....

Thank you

I can't help myself - When people wish to voice there opinions and other wish to argue everything. Including those who wish to hurl, I bet ya carry a bucket around all day to catch all that hurl.

And to think someone put you in charge of watching over this board, was that so you can voice your opinion, and if ya didn't like what others have to say to can trash them.

O heck enough said why would I want to add fuel to any fire you wish to start or stroke.........

And I came back to this board to visit with freinds and fellow horse breeders who can, and will face the facts of Life and talk about what is happening in the world whether you like it or not. We are each given the choice of our thoughts and speech, just as you are.........

Enough said, I believe I am done............... and I paid good money to join Thoroughbred Database. I didn't know they had clowns too...........!

Not meant for you, or your commentary personally dkbailely... I welcome your thoughts and insights.

Really, my hurling comment is more about the whole issue in general: so sad that after 30 years of abuse, all the rules and regulations, all the proposed changes and fixes, the issue never seems to go away.

David, its great to have you back. I met your son a little while back when a horse he trains beat me. I got back with my son on this and he cleared up what I thought he said. They will start testing in January, but due to the residual effects of steriods, they are not going to start fining people right at first and by LS they will be fining offenders. I still believe that there are times when they can help, but theres no need to go there its been beat to death already. The reason that I wanted to know what other states are doing is we are going to start looking for some horses in training and we don't want to get anything running on steriods. I believe that they do loose form quickly when they can't get the help. So if we claim something at LS we should be seeing the true class of the horses we get and I need to know what the other states are doing before I go there to get a horse. There should be a real difference in form especially in geldings when they run dry. I guess I'm saying that we want geldings that run well without steriods in their system. Colts will be the best bet.

Are there any major jurisdictions that aren't adopting a steroid ban? I can't think of one. I was thinking the Jan 1 date was common if it wasn't done earlier.

Karen, NV doesn't have an NTRA track. And don't the tracks that are in the state run very limited meets? I can't see why a ban on raceday steroids would be a top priority for NV - regardless of whether the care about horses or not.

Here is the thing I find interesting about ALL sports. Every sport will always be trying to develop something that will mask hormone use or replace it. IMO and as usual it won't be popular, It's a band aid for the real issue and that is the human factor. It's ridiculous.
