Looking at a mare for sale - won over $100,000
I need someone to tell me why this mare, La Ballador by thunder gulch, won 100,000 on the track and is being used as a regular riding horse. I am going to see her this weekend and possibly trading for my mare...but why would a mare who was fairly successful on the track is not being bred right now...could she be infertile? Would you guys pick this mare up?

The correct name is La Balladar.
From the information I have available the catalog page for a foal out of her would be a complete blank (no black type in the first four dams) and her family is European and unfamiliar to the marketplace here. She would not be at all commercial. If someone were planning to breed her to race all of her foals (preferably on grass or poly) she might do okay. Otherwise a riding horse is probably the best use for her.

Yeah, her owner said she bought her 5 months ago from a hunter/jumper barn nearby. I'm wondering why a mare who won over 100,000 even though she is void of blacktype wouldn't get used as a broodmare. I would think reproductive issues.....hmm and yes her family is european so she would have no commercial appeal. That could explain why she didn't become a broodmare. But a reproductive exam would be in order if I were to purchase her.

If you were going to sell the foals, it is an easy decision, the market would be 10 times better for foals from a mare full with black type and unraced. She was a hard knocking horse it sounds like, but winning $100,000 in a career is not an uncommon thing for a horse today, particularly at places like Pa, WV. or Woodbine. Her breeding on the bottom is very obscure also. If you want her to breed to race, follow your heart.

You're right.....for some reason I'm trying to convince myself, which means I don't really have the right feeling about it so back to the drawing board. Thanks! There is a filly I have hopes for that I posted a week back names honor marks. Can you take a look at her? I just have that feeling about her.....
