mess in KY...

Postby doublete » Sun Jan 23, 2005 12:52 pm

Kathleen Nygaard was arrested in the care of several horses. IN Lexington, KY. Several articles can be foundon the Thoroughbred Times site.

Of course I'm trying to track my own mare down that was in their care.

Anyone in Lexington that can help me?

Several of the horses found alive were taken to Hagyard horse hospital (Hagyard, Davidson & McGee), you might call there. This was news a couple of weeks ago. There was a "response" written up in the Horse, and it actually had a lot more information.

Anyhow, you might want to give Hagyard a call to see if your horse is there (I hope not, they were the "worst cases" that weren't already dead).

I just called the hospital- Unfortuantely they only have one mare (a gray that is not mine and has already been matched to her owner). The others were already moved by the Animal Control people. So I still have to wait to hear back tomorrow from them. I spoke to the officer in charge once already.

Mike Blowen thought my mare was one of them though.

There are pics of 4 of them (including the gray mare, a chestnut mare, and another chestnut mare and foal) at http://www.thehorse.com/images/content/ ... abuse.html I hope that link works. But your mare could have been one of the other 20 that didnt need immediate medical care hopefully anyway.

Best of luck, let us know when you locate her.

Once I get her found and the authorities accept my proof of ownership, etc, then the immediate issues will be finding a place to keep her until I can find transport and then getting her transported.
I've been in contact with Old Friends, and hopefully we can get all of this straightened out and have her home ASAP.

Definitely will need one.. Will need to get her as close to Maine as possible.

As reliably as possible and hopefully sooner than later.

If you want to board her (short term) in Lexington, Blackstone Farm is a good spot, they have a day rate and they offer 24 hr service & deal with haulers all the time (859) 254-5688 tell Jimbo I sent you, they can get your paperwork done, too, for hauling... for quotes from "small" shippers, you could try Johnnie Perkinson (502) 239-3319 or (502) 387-2526. Or Mike McCauley (502) 552-3841. Otherwise, you might give IHT a call and see if they have a rig going your way (800) 387-1779...

The best way to foil the bandits from stealing your TB is to put a chip in your mare and you can find your TB easy.

She's not stolen Louis.
She's somewhere in the care of either the Animal Control people or at the farm in the care of the farm owners (they've placed a lein on the horses that were in the Nygaard's care).

I hope you get your mare back, I read the "statement" link from the other owner and looked at the photos and report. Bull Sh-t is what that is, no one lets horses starve in thier care if they are "good caring people" becuase they don't know what to do......

I am afraid I agree with Nancy... I turned up to pick up my horses from a boarding farm because the owner had threatened to harm my yearling filly who had been goofy and knocked her down in a field; I had found another place, I notified the farm owner, etc. She had changed all the locks and I called the sheriff and raised all kinds of H___ and left with my horses.
