La Ville Rouge foals (another) full Barbaro brother and...

Postby freshman » Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:23 pm

She's booked to Dynaformer again.

What do you guys think about the choice to go to Dynaformer a fifth time? There is Nicanor, Lentenor, and now baby boy '09 out there to represent the potential for this mating. Wouldn't it make more sense to put her to another stallion at this point?

Well, they COULD be thinking that the mare's still got a lot of years ahead of her....the stud, not so much.

But - and this is just a guess here - I think it's because they want a filly from this cross, and will keep trying until they get one.

I also think that had either of the last two been a girl, they'd have gone to a different sire line by now...the better to linebreed to La Ville Rouge in a few generations.

I believe Lucy is right - in that they are hoping for a filly - for the life of me I can't remember where, but I swear I read a direct quote from the Jacksons stating they were hoping LVR would produce a full sister

If the new research about stressed mares being more likely to produce fillies is correct, they should starve La Ville Rouge for a couple of months before breeding her. And use vinegar douches pre-cover. :)

While there is a TON of debate regarding full siblings-and the chances of one topping Barbaro are slim-this seems to be a darn good cross to me.
Dynaformer (IMO) is a top sire-he may not be fashionable (like SOME stallions) but he produces hard knocking horses-which is what the sport needs. Not more of these flash in the pan 2 year old "wonders".

Perhaps the Jacksons feel that they are setting an example by not going with a "Fashionable" stallion. Heck-I think its great!!!
Screw breeding what looks good on paper-bred what is going to IMPROVE the breed.

The Jacksons don't seem to be in this sport for the money-it seems that they are in it for the horses and the sport of it-and they are VERY high profile-

So those of you who think that La Ville Rouge should be breed to a different stallion-Who do you think she should be bred too and why?
Now remember, the Jacksons are obviously not breeding to sell.

She just squeezed out a monsterous 146-pound Dynaformer foal. La Ville Rouge probably just wishes they'd book her to smaller stallion.

Well how many proven top notch stallions from the Roberto line do we have in the U.S. (it is a great cross). Tiznow's mommy never topped Tiznow but I'd have been real happy to have raced his full siblings.

Good point. :) You could always try her with a different branch of Hail to Reason - her Saint Ballado could run a bit - but somehow I doubt they'd send her to my beloved Devil His Due, and no-one else jumps to mind.

I wish Rahy had a top-notch son somewhere - I love him, and like that he brings in Halo, but going straight to him would mean 2x4 Blushing Groom (I can think of far worse horses to be 2x4 to, but that's still too close for my personal preference).

Young stallions I might consider would be Candy Ride (a more palatable 4x4 to Blusing Groom), or Mizzen Mast (an outcross sire line, and, like Dynaformer, out of a Ribot-line mare).

But then again, I'm a researcher, not a bloodstock expert.

Lucy-
Personally, I am of the opinion that most mares should be sent to Devil His Due (I love that horse!!)....

But as he is a cheap stallion (compared to many), and in my honest opinion, has not gotten the quality of the mares he deserves.
