Affirmed. He looked another great horse in the eye, Alydar passed him, and then Affirmed rallied and won.

And then Seattle Slew, he wasn't challenged as much.

at pimlico, at that exact distance, assuming each had say.. a month rest.. i actually have to handlip this one..

seattle slew and affirmed as well as ruffian would be on the the lead on a scorching hot pace and it would set it up for big red.

I'd go with a Big Red, Aydar exacta.

Secretariat
Affirmed
Alydar
Ruffian
Seattle Slew
Cigar
Rachal Alexandra

Honestly, she is a nice filly-but she is not in the same class as the greats.
Personally, I don't think that she is better than any of the great fillies or mares-Zenyatta and possibly Azeri included

I don't think she is either, but I think she is on the same level as ruffian, who I also don't think is in the same class as the rest of the field. yet at least. Well... it's really moreso their running styles moreso than the talent. as good as ruffian was or as rachael is, she isn't going to win, neitehr of them is going to win a pace duel with the slew. not gonna happen. he'd run both of them in the ground.

I do think she's better than Azeri. she did something azeri never could do, which says alot.

That's too much speed in that race and the bid would have that field over a barrell.

This is an interesting thread, I think any of them if they're having a good day could win it. It would just depend on how the race set up, they don't always set up the way we would think they do, that's why it's called Horse Racing.

We often joke that given the choice between two horses, a jockey usually picks the wrong one. That is kind of funny considering he/she is usually on top of his/her game to have the choice to make, has ridden both at the same track and distance, and all this has happened in a matter of weeks. That is what makes it so impossible to compare different horses in different years. I find that the public values longevity, where horsemen value brilliance. Not written in stone: just a casual observation.

true.

for instance, if you ask many who is the best between the following...

lava man
curlin
tiznow
ghostzapper
invasor

everyone would spout lava man for winning what was it 8 consective grade 1's in cali, curlin for being the all time leading money winner, tiznow winning 2 breeders cup classics, invasor winning a grade 1 on three different continents...

but put them all in the gate (at any distance mind you) and ghostzapper would go off at the 6/5 favoriate.
