A G3 winning son of a well bred stallion is worth more than $10k to foreign buyers and also some smaller regional markets, you would be surprised what some far lesser horses are bought for.
Where are these "good" sales you speak of, and are there "bad" sales for stallions?

Nothing suprises me. I've sold lesser horses for more but it was to stupid people who had more money than knowledge in private deals. I'm correct in saying - in a good sale on his own merits he will not bring $10K. This horse would have trouble attracting enough mares to pay his way at that price. Most people see that but there's a sucker born every minute.
A good sale is a Keeneland or Fasig Tipton KY sale. Any sale would be a bad sale for this horse - why he's advertised and not going to auction.
I think it is the wrong time of year for this horse to be sold for that price. Also I think that advertising him publicly at that price sets the wrong tone for a sale.
I know last winter, before the 1st of the year, there were breeders in Indiana SCRAMBLING to find GSW stallions to stand there. I know of one horse who sold into an IN breeder for something close to the price on this horse, who was not a Storm Cat or Mr. Prospector horse. But generally speaking, the folks who buy horses like that don't want the details or price publicly known. In my opinion.
This horse might not be able to attract mares in KY, but I think he CERTAINLY could in a smaller regional program. At a fee like $2500 he would only need 30 mares his first year to pay for himself.

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

OK chief...lesser horses sell for $20-40k at Keeneland November, pretty much the ONLY sale you would go shopping for a stallion if you want to buy on an open market. But hey if you are in the business of ripping people off that don't know any better good for you, enjoy the repeat business.

There is nothing wrong with getting the maximum dollar for a horse - you get maximum dollar from people who have more money than brains. I doubt you have ever told anyone they were paying too much for one of YOUR horses. BETTER horses sell for $20-40K at Keeneland. There is nothing special about this horse as a sire prospect - he was a better than average racehorse.

Geesh, I hope I never find a horse of yours for sale that I truly like because you believe only idiots should buy your horses. I believe that people pay maximum dollar for horses that are worth it based on past performance, pedigree or future value. I think there are a few markets where as Madelyn said this horse could easily pay for himself in a season.
