Has anyone ever used Stem cell work on their horses before?

I have not had one of mine use the stem cell treatment but I know of many that have used a similar type of treatment and it has been very successful. I recommend it strongly. The one treatment I have heard good things about costs $1,600.00 per treatment and is very similar to stem cell injections, in that the Vet draws some fluid from the animal--- roughly 10cc and then gives you back 4 (2cc) shots to be injected back into the targeted area. It has been phenomonal.
best regards Brendan

Funny enough, I just got off the phone with the vet at London Equine Hospital discussing the exact same thing. He said the newest thing is P.R.P (platelet rich plasma) which is injected right into the lesion during an ultrasound, it is an outpatient procedure and it is only $450.00 That is also in Canadian funds, and it has excellent results in healing the lesion. The other thing to consider as well is the fact that the tendon always heals tighter and a re-occurance is common, so he recommended to cut the upper check ligaments as well. We have had that done before and they never re-bowed.

I asked one of Texas' top lameness vets about stem cell therapy for one of my horses and he said something pretty interesting - said he wouldn't recommend it for the problem she was indicating in her hocks as while stem cells seemed to work pretty good in general on foreleg issues it didn't seem to work so well or at all on issues of the hind legs - didn't know why, but that was the annecdotal observation of several vets/researchers he'd visited with on the subject plus his own observation. That was also two years ago and several advancements have been made since then.
