The best grey stallion the world has ever known.

Postby Fair Play » Mon Jun 15, 2009 6:17 pm

Okay, I have a warped request made to make my life easier. I tend to have bad filing systems for documents and pictures until they develop by necessity into something sensible. I have 2 gorgeous rex does (bunnies: one black and white, the other chestnut and white), and a white buck. They have produced their first litter so I have decided to give my brain cells a rest naming them and steal the names of racehorses. I think if I give them real names, I not only don't have to think up my own, but I can just look them up if anything happens to my records. Once I pick a name for the buck from an existing stallion, and two names from appropriately colored mares he bred, I should be home free. Any suggestions other than more sleep? ;)

Genius. Thanks. :) I might call the chestnut doe Tempted or Prime Time and the black one Likely Prospect or Beaver Street. :D

Really Oldie--Master Robert

All Gray TBs trace back to him. All the other gray lines died out.

That's a tough one. I would say either Native Dancer or Mahmoud.

Perhaps you may want to examine the names mentioned at this thread:

Thank you all so much. Who knew naming rabbits could be such fun and so educational. Some of the little blighters look like they have some speed too. ;)

It is also interesting for me as my pet (TB) is a grey. :)

Allcock, for the Allcock Grey Arabian, most likely the source of the grey gene in the TB population.

Also a pun for a male rabbit.

The gray gene didn't necessarily come through Crab.

Bab, the source of the gray in Master Robert had two gray parents. On top, the gray derives from the Cygnet Mare, who got it from Sister Three to Steady, who got it from Miss Belvoir. Miss Belvoir had two gray parents, neither one of whom trace to Alcock's Arabian. One parent goes to the Brownlow Turk, who was gray; the other goes back to the Old Morocco Mare, who was by the gray Fairfax's Morocco Barb.

So the current living gray gene has three possible sources.
