Rock Creek Park Trail Ride

Postby Barbaro06 » Sun Aug 09, 2009 3:42 pm

I haven't sat on a horse for six months...so today I went to Rock Creek Park for a trail ride. Yeah, only a meandering walk, but in really nice scenery. Amazing to have a national park in a suburban area like DC. But it was refreshing to get out and get into the relatively fresh air. The ride was at 11am, before it really got hot. We had a lot of shade in the woods so it was a little cooler. I can't wait to get settled in Virginia...will be hunting for a stable to ride at...

Was it your "typical" public trail ride where the horses just play follow the leader or were you allowed to vary the trail?

Follow the leader. The ride I went on had a park ranger talk about the history and the flora/fauna of the park.

That's what I thought - insurance companies....

When I was a kid (admitedly, a long time ago) you could rent the horses at Rock Creek Park and take them where ever you wanted on their vast number of trails. My sister and I used to drive our parents nuts begging them to take us. I am glad to see that there is still a chance to ride there however - better than four-wheelers.
