Postby JimP » Thu Aug 13, 2009 4:40 am

Hi Guys,

I would like to draw up a contract with my trainer for training purposes.
Does anyone have a sample copy?
You can either pm or email me. Thanks for your help.

No trainer will sign that contract. If you want your horse to be trained a certain way you better go get your license.

Hi,

He has already agreed to sign a contract. I just wanted a generic copy that I could convert for my situation.

Sorry to have bothered everyone.

Hi Guys,

Okay Ageecee since you asked.

I want to make sure that no joints are tapped without my knowledge or prior approval. I want to know what "drugs" are going into my horse first unless live saving as in an emergency. A horse will not be entered into a race without my first hand knowledge.
Things of that sort not "you will gallop my horse x number of miles each day. I hire a trainer to train and pretty well leave that up to him/her.

If you have to tell your trainer how many miles a day that you want your horse galloped, you might need another trainer. Your last sentence conflicts with the rest of the post. You might just need to let the trainer know that you are not going to pay for any vet except and then list what you agree too. Contracts are two edged swords. If you want to be apart of your horses program, visit often and find out ahead of time when the horse will work or gallop. It can be fun.

I think you misunderstood them (their sentence lacked some needed punctuation). They were saying the contract would NOT include things such as "You will gallop my horse x number of miles each day".

Any reputable trainer will sign a reasonable contract. Otherwise run away. Likewise, most reputable trainers will want you to sign a contract for their own protection and it may be required by the racing commission in leases, etc..

Any trainer who is broke and needs day rate money will sign it. All others will laugh at you.
