Having lived through the hell of war in Korea, this story really got to me.

Agreed. Thanks for sharing & thanks for reminding us to thank those who serve. I'm spending about 8 hours tomorrow in a car with my feisty 86 year old father who also served in the South Pacific in WWII.

I need to remember to thank him, too . . .

Bill, thanks for posting this. It really touched my heart. I served in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Regiment and was wounded by a grenade. I have to tell you that it was my love for our horses and the support of my wife and family that carried me through some of my most painful days as I spent 275 days recovering in a Navy Hospital.

War is an inexplicable experience. I left Vietnam on a stretcher. Many servicemen have left their souls in far away lands like Vietnam. Like Don Munger, I enjoy every moment I have with my family and my horses. Some of us are so lucky. I often shed a tear for those who were not so lucky. I can still see the faces of the men we lost.

The Marine slogan is Semper Fidelis. It means "Always Faithful." I get that feeling from our horses every morning as I go out to feed. Every morning, all our horses are standing at the fence impatiently waiting on me. I am glad they can still depend on me. I am so glad to see them every morning. There are not enough fingers on my hand to count the blessing I have.

Horsemen like Don Munger give us all hope. Semper Fi.

thx for sharing that Bill. I forwarded the link to my veteran friends. One in particular, I hope it will cheer him up a bit.
