I am a newbie to RACING...help please

What do you think of the mare named Can't be an Angel

looks like she did ok in racing so far, got a tendon injury this summer and was retired. I have her now, but I don't know how to read through the racing lingo to figure out how well she did. IS SHE WORTH BREEDING? Just a question....

She is a nice riding horse, and is 100% sound. Wonderfull disposition, and doesn't have the race still in her when you are pleasure riding.

Scarlett:
The quick answer is not to breed her. She doesn't have a great pedigree, she raced at the lower levels of horse racing. Enjoy riding her and look for another mare if you want to breed.

Mare

My question is, can't you breed racing back into that mare's foals.
Some of the fastest horses in the world came from back yard pedigrees.
What if you don't have enough cash to start out with an established mare?

Thanks, I also own her paternal half sister and she is also a stellar riding mare. She is bred to a quarter horse stallion for an 05 foal...

This mare is wonderfull just like her sister, soft eyes, gorgeous conformation, and a wonderfull disposition. I always love to check on the TB's in here and get opinions, it is just nice to know others opinions. Her sire is a wonderfull sport horse sire, and I guess he does..OK for a racing sire. Both of my mares raced in stakes and did well. Not to mention they are BOTH 100% sound, "Angel" had a pulled tendon and retired from racing because of that, but I have doctored her to 100% soundness, no issues at all so far, and she is on a full work schedule!

I personally love the retraining of OTTB's and making them wonderfull pleasure horses, they usually are BOMBPROOF because of track exposure, and with the right retraining turn out to be happy easy to ride pleasure horses. JMHO....

Thanks for the input, but I still don't know how to see through the racing lingo...lol, anywhere that I can go and read to learn for myself?

Regarding Can't Be An Angel, it appears she was racing on a, well, bullring circuit. The Nursery Stakes she won had a race value of $3,085, which is not really a stakes, so any black type is false. On the other hand, it appears she raced in Oregon and I don't know but that may have been the only racing available. The sire, Can't Be Slew, appears to have been one of those "bust" horses who sold for $400K as a yearling and then ran 8 times, 1 win, earnings $23,050 (wouldn't you hate to be the one reporting THAT loss..) He does not have even a listing in the Stallion Register, and may not be doing anything at all anymore. The problem with that is that he will probably not make a mark as a broodmare sire, or sire of any kind, and that impacts your mare's value a LOT. Next, analysing your mare's damline (the more important line), her dam seems to have been bred in '99 and '00 and then nothing. The dam is 11 now, and still within the age to be bred... The second dam won a low, restricted stakes, same thing, the value is actually below what is really considered a stakes, and had an overall 22-3-4-1 for total earnings of $48K, but produced nothing. The third dam produced nothing but the second dam. So this is a mare that would not justify an expensive breeding. That said, if you want to find an inexpensive stallion that could complement the Jaipur line in her female line to race yourself and have fun on a circuit that offspring could be competitive in go for it.... or if the mare was herself a sprinter who "died" halfway through the race and you have access to a good racing QH stallion, you could get a nice Appendix for QH racing, depending on the mare's conformation. The point is, your mare would not be considered commercial, so you would not get a "sales" foal. Good luck with whatever you decide...
