Whoot, whoot half brother to our mare sells for $320,000!

Postby BlazingColours » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:06 am

I am thrilled to share that our mare, Likety Lemon, had a half brother sell for $320,000, as a yearling in the Keeneland sale. He sold on day one and is by Tiznow. Here is the catalogue page http://apps.keeneland.com/sales/sep09/pdfs/52.pdf I would have to think our mares results had something to do with the colt selling for that much. Tiznow is quite a nice sire too!

Our mare Lickety Lemon (pictured below) is by Lemon Drop Kid.

Lickety Lemon is a turf specialist, having raced on the grass in all but one of her 14 starts. Lemon finished "on the board" in an amazing seven stakes races at tracks all across North America, including Woodbine, Keeneland, Saratoga and Fairgrounds. She won the $102,000 Flaming Page Stakes at Woodbine and ran 2nd in the $102,000 Alywow Stakes, also at Woodbine. Lemon was also 2nd (by only a neck!) in the $150,000 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland. She ran third in the $182,000 Ontario Colleen at Woodbine, third in the $102,000 Madame Jumel Stakes at Saratoga and also third in the $150,000 Natalma Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. Lemon retired with lifetime earnings of $236,004.
She is infoal to More Than Ready and we are very excited about her 2010 foal due in April.

The colt selling for $320,000 is a double pleasure for us because our mare, Officer Cherrie, is infoal to Tiznow!

So seeing Tiznow's offspring bring good prices like this is quite a nice feeling. I realize that a lot factors go into what price a weanling/yearling sells for, but it is results like this that give us *hope*!

Anyway, I am *thrilled* and just had to share!

Hopefully by the time your potential foal heads for the sales the market will have rebounded and will sell for even more. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Laurierace! Sell for more than 320K... How fabulous would that be... So long between now and then, where so many things have to go *just* right. Which is why I like find little tid bits like this to show the possibly bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Congratulations! You are very fortunate in this very difficult market. I love Tiznow and he is really demonstrating he can get the classic distance horses.

I'm very happy for your success! Savor every moment of this victory! :D
