KBIF seems to be in jeopardy..

Postby madelyn » Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:53 am

KY only just got breeders' incentives a couple of years ago and it is already in trouble. Now they've got some idea that they should exclude horses who were bred in KY with no sales tax paid on a stud fee. So if Brereton Jones breeds one of his own mares to one of his own stallions at Airdrie, the offspring will be ineligible? What about stallion season owners? I wonder how that will be controlled? Since the KBIF was supposed to help the "small" breeders, how can they now exclude low purse MSW's? The fact that the low purse is in Ohio is more a statement about the impoverished Ohio racing scene, since River Downs competition can get a bit salty here and there when it's the only open meet with such close proximity to KY... The original premise of funding KBIF from the sales tax on stud fees always seemed a bit thin, to me. I think we should have another lottery to pay breeder's incentives - it could be the Horsepick or something

That's really sad since a lot of different breeders from various horse organizations, AQHA, APHA, etc. moved to KY to take advantage of the KBIF

Love the Horsepick idea. Gotta be better than racinos. :D

Unbelievable. I am a member of the APHA, and I was shocked at the ads placed in the Paint Horse Journal touting the KBIF. Money to those horses is sucked off with no return. You don't make money with a show horse unless you sell it.
