501(c)(3) 1023 form?

Postby Heidilady » Fri Nov 20, 2009 12:31 pm

I've been trying to find an example of a Form 1023 from the IRS for 501(c)(3)'s with financial data (revenue & expenses, balance sheet) for a therapeutic riding center or really any kind of non profit at this point and I'm having a bit of trouble. The one I got on Google for Ride on LA is fairly old and doesn't contain all the info I need. I get that they don't all post it on their websites but surely there's one somewhere on the internet. The Guidestar website doesn't let you access without paying for that sort of info even though it's public record which is fair I guess since they did the work of assembling it, it's just inconvenient for me. I had hoped someone would post their own online.

It occurred to me 'duh I know horse people' and one of you might have an idea, esp. some folks are into non-profit work. Thanks.

If you put this request on Alex Brown, I think someone there will help you. There are dozens of rescues that posted daily on that board.

Try this link:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1023.pdf

The IRS also will have the instructions for the form.
Go to www.irs.gov then on top in search enter f. 1023
you will get the forms and instructions.

Good luck!

Actually I already have those, I just need to see what others used. It's the 1023 that's driving me nuts right now. Thanks though. :) It's part of a project I'm working on where we can create a real one or not, it's really about showing we know how to do the 1023, bylaws, articles of incorporation, etc. My team and I opted not too do an actual 501(c)(3) just a fake one because being as it's therapeutic riding, it's a little more difficult to get it together than starting a charity that effectively runs out of an apartment. I had to talk them down from having a fake-vet on our fake-staff because we could just have one come to our fake-center like every other barn.

We were directed to Guidestar for examples of financial statements but I don't think that person realized you have to pay for the premium version to get those so we're still hunting for examples of things like financial data. I don't just want to make up numbers out of thin air, I'd like to at least get in the ballpark of the real ones. Also I worked very hard to forget the balance sheet stuff I learned in an accounting class I once took. I'm trying to avoid relearning it.
