Grind Stone
This stallion is standing in our north west area now. I really like his looks, pedigree and it doesn't hurt that he is a KD winner. Anyone have any ideas about mares that would cross well with him or any thoughts about him in general? Anyone have any foals by him?
www.Oakhurstthoroughbreds.com offers free nicks to him
Good Luck
Good Luck
Hi, we have a very nice weanling filly by him.
We bred to him, not only because of who he was, and his sons, grandsons, and long distance ability, etc. but we have a mare that really throws huge foals and we wanted to see if perhaps breeding to a smaller stallion would help.
It didn't, the filly was large so obviously mom has the gene in her to throw large foals, but this filly is very correct, has an incredible 'stout' chest, legs, etc. and we have had others look at her and all have really liked her so I'm sure you could do a lot worse than breeding to him!
Good luck!

The mare determines the size of the foal not the stallion
Grindstone's son Birdstone is small like him, and in turn Birdstone's son, Mine That Bird is small and the farm said that his foals run smaller like him. I wonder what the size of the mares were that Grindstone and Birdstone were bred to that made their progeny smaller like they are then. I'm confused
Our mare that has the large foals is by Spectacular Bid and she is "normal" size, height, weight, etc. but she just had the biggest foals. We were hoping to give her a break with a little guy. She is not bred this year and don't know if she will be again since we do not wish to risk her life.
On the size topic, but different horses, does anyone know the sizes of Zenyatta's parents? What makes the gigantic size like she was....same thing with Ruffian, her parents (from what I've read) were "normal" sized TB's but she came out huge like Zenyatta.
chemistry....chemistry...chemistry, I guess!

When you said your mare thru large foals I thought you were refering to the size when they were foaled....apperently thats not what you were refering to?

What pictures I could find the mares seem to be on the small side when it comes to Mine that bird and Birdstone, from what I could see. Birdstones second dam Hush Dear's pictures seems from the picture to be on the smaller side.
