HI All,
I am sitting with the installer as we speak.
I am trying to figure out which one to use, diamond mesh or the 2x4 wire horse fence (square instead of diamond shape). The difference is about $1.00 less per linear foot on 2x4 wire.
Unless there is some major safety reason for one over the other I will go less. It would be for a weanling area. Has anyone had a horse of any age get caught in the 2x4 fence?
ANy input appreciated.
Need help quick Diamond Mesh fence vs 2x3 horse fence

I'd think there's concern if it were a closely confined area depending on value of horse and type of 2x4--light, heavy, tightly or losely stretched. the larger the area the safer the 2x4. i patch diamond mesh where i believe it's needed. in a large field, by and large in most areas 2x4 will do, the stouter the better.. in smaller confines, where they want to get out, be more careful. lesson--once spent $5000 constructing a small diamond mesh paddock. waste of $$$. u can do just as well much cheaper depending on budget...of course

If you have a commercial operation with a lot of horses the diamond V is the way to go. Takes the wear and tear a lot better.
I went back and forth on this and finally decided to go 2 x4, with a top board and 4 board on the corners. We have never had a foal or horse get a foot stuck in it. Right now there are 8 weanlings, and no problems.
We do have more horses now, and I have had to replace a couple of spots. There is one shared pasture fence and if I a make a lane I will stick with 2 x 4, if it remains the same (shared) I will replace with diamond V eventually.
Diamond V is a lot more expensive, does stretch better (i.e. you have to be careful stretching the 2 x 4, especially when splicing.) up front.
