I just needed to share this very sad news. She was a favourite of mine. I loved her.

I did too, she showed so much courage in the BC Juvinile Fillies race against Serena's Song oh so many years ago.

She was so popular. I remember when her first foal was training before she was named, and the buzz about the track on her was that she was going to be very good. Everyone just called her "Flander's Girl" before she was Surfside. I can't think of any other foal that was called somebody's girl, rather than somebody's filly. I think that shows the affection the public still had for Flanders three years after she retired.
