I found this web site rather interesting. Shadwell has a large Arabian stallion roster in England. Coming from an Arabian show backround I found it rather neat how there race-bred Arabians differ so much in conformation from our race/show bred Arabian horses.
Even with No Thoroughbred blood they look so much like Thoroughbreds. There is no dished face (I imagine that would be something not desired because of breathing). They also use a lot of French/Russian and even Oriental Arabian blood and not as much Egyptian as I would have imagined.
Beautiful horses none the less and I plan to get deeper into the website sometime, but thought I would put this out there.

Wow, those horses look NOTHING like Arabs as we know them!
I had no idea that race-bred Arabian horses were so different in type; those horses look like thoroughbs or warmblood crosses. It really is hard to beleive.
I'm not a big Arab fan, but I think I could become one if these race-bred types where available!

In Europe we have see them allready for more than 15 years. This is the FRENCH type, just like you said they are small thoroughbreds. The French bred Arabs are the best in Europe in racing.

No kidding!
I remember when they were trying to get ALL the countries to DNA their Arabs (race or show) and the racing contingent of France fought it tooth and nail. I strongly suspect there is more than just performance selection as the reason these horses look like thoroughbreds!

Every mighty oak was once an acorn that stood its ground.
The difference in conformation is strongly due to the bloodlines they breed. Arabs are "Arabs" but there are so many different strains with different characteristics it is unbelieveable.
I could compare it to the Storm Cat "look", the Mr. Prospector knees, the Afleet Alex hocks (as I learned the other night on the Thoroughbred doc on tv). Arabs from different parts of the world developed different looks, and now we know what some of the French bred Arabs look like- they look sweet!!!

The original thought was how different these arabians looks from the show/race Arabians we see in the states. From showing on the Arab circuit I have seen the majority of them smaller, light boned, dished faced. "Saddle types". I had a Polish arab who was short, stocky, thick, longer faced. In Poland they were bred as work horses. Egyptian arabs were bred for endurance so they were light but still hearty horses. It (to my recollection) were the types of horses who were bred in England and devloped into the TB we see today.
There were attributes that the Arab gave the TB but the TB is in no way an evolved Arab. LOL
The TB was developed using Barb and Turk blood as well. I believe that is the key.
If you look at the hind end of those horses(The Arabs), you see what they are lacking..
Something the TB and their genetic cousin, the QH have, SPEED.
Speed and propulsion power come from the butt.
Having said that, those are some amazing looking horses.
