are there any good books I can read about the horse racing "bubble" of the early 80s? this is a subject I find quite interesting

I like The Horse Traders by Steven Crist. It was out of print for a while, but I see its back in paperback. It was written in the 80s.

Wild Ride by Ann Hagedorn Auerbach is specifically about Calumet in the 80s, and how they incurred all that debt.
