Nice older mare in Okla. Sale

The old gals produce record shows she's still been active as of 2004 and naturally with this age of mare you'd sure want to have a vet check her out prior to bidding on her. My thoughts here...if you have your own property, she could be interesting and as I mentioned, if she's healthy she might be a nice first broodmare for someone. I guess I've had good luck with older mares and just felt like throwing this nice old mares name out there in case someone might feel so inclined to buy her. Nothing more, nothing less.

We bred No Small Matter last year at age 19 to Basket Weave age 23. She was open. She caught on the first cycle and is going to drop a foal in the next 3 or 4 weeks. She looks fantastic. Depending on the mare, 19 can still be workable. EO

I haven't heard if this mare sold but, I'd be happy to fax you the catalog page. Send me a Priviate Message (PM) with your fax number. You might want to give the sales company a call too. (918) 288-7308 and ask if the mare sold. By the way, her breeding stats which I listed above came right out of the catalog and she did have a foal in 2004..no report 2003, but had a foals in 2002, 2001 and 2000. She "appears from her breeding history to be fine...but always have these old gals checked out. Personally, I've had very good luck with older mares.

OLDER MARES
A couple things pop to mind:
1) Nothing wrong with an older mare. SECRETARIAT's dam was EIGHTTEEN (18) and I heard he turned out fairly good on the track. (!).
2) Ann is correct that this is a good starter mare for a small breeder; the commercial guys cull their mares at a certain age as a matter of course, whereas, the small breeder may keep a sweet mare for the rest of her natural life.
3) A couple years ago, GENE'S LADY, a SW of nearly a million, sold at the Heritage Place sale in Oklahoma............for $950. She had not produced anything of merit, but still, major black-type for pennies, is worth the risk to the small breeder. Stranger things have happened.

I bought a 1979 Sir Gaylord mare at the Ar. breeders sale for $800. just to save her from the killers. She's now in foal with her second Tough Hombre. Her name is Maroon Belle and Her first foal sold for $300,000. She was a stakes horse and stakes producer with progeny earnings some where around the $300,000 mark if I recall correctly. Her first foal for me is a two year old named Street Tough. Best $800. I ever spent on a mare, especially if this one she is carrying now looks as good as her last one. The filly is bred somewhat like Lord Carson only one out on the top side and one in on the bottom side, at any rate it will be very interesting to see what she has on the track.
I believe if my math is correct she is 26 years young this year and I will breed her back again this year. I wonder what is the oldest mare to foal a Grade Or Group 1 or G2 stakes horse?
