Eskendereya scratched

Postby Derby2004 » Sun Apr 25, 2010 7:35 am

Eskendereya has been scratched from the derby. I hate to see a good horse miss out but looks like some people on this board saw some stuff that led them to question soundness. So I'm gonna guess pletcher is throwing every horse and dog he can in the gate.

What a shame, such a nice horse. Just congesture here but maybe soft tissue problems?

Pletcher reported filling in left front ankle. No report if there is any damage. I stated on another thread that he hit the ground hard with his running action. Let's hope he isn't hurt too bad. Perhaps some time off and his bone and tissue will become stronger.

He's been seen for the past week or more with different wraps than he usually wore and his legs are shaved to above the knee. Something has been up at least that long.

Pletcher, and his owners, can only nominate horses that are eligible to run..

And I would insist my trainer nominate any and all horses I owned that were eligible to be nominated. Who amoung us would not??

this could be minor. horses legs blow up all the time, and they are fine in 3 days. could be other way too.

Eskendereya scratched

What a shame, probably the only legit horse that would have had a shot at a triple crown this year.

Funny, the horse hadn't a hope of winning the Derby.

This injury or whatever they have contrived just to keep the horse from turning up on derby day and getting beaten to keep his "reputaion" intact.

People keep mentioning the Wood win by 10L against who?

Eskenderya will never set foot on a track again, worth too much to his owners and the banks, will go to stud for about $40k next year.

TTimes last week had the following regarding Zayat's bankruptcy terms of sale of Esk.

"A nonrefundable deposit of $2 million is assumed to be received in September 2010 from the sale of Eskendereya, with the remaining Eskendereya proceeds assumed to be received in December 2010."

Is he worth $2 mil at this point? $40k stud fee? While the Pedigree Forum stats are not full, he has a lot of unraced bros and srs. Soundness problem here maybe?

Not my $40k....

I disagree, he had a big shot to win the Derby. He is a giant physical talent.

I agree that he really didn't have a chance to win. Way too much speed to cook the rest of the field. I really don't think he had a chance to get in the gate much less win. Between the problem with zayat and his financial problem and the way the horse runs according to a lot of people. I don't think he will bring 40k but maybe 15 to 20k. Plus I think they didn't want to risk injury or even worse. He does have to sell the horse by September and if something happened to eskendereya he would be SOL. This race is setting up for Sidney candy. And I still have my fingers crossed for Jackson bend getting in.

Those front wraps in the Wood caused a lot of speculations, although they may not have meant anything at the time...
