the useful ignorance of non horsey people

Postby Toccet02 » Thu May 06, 2010 2:08 pm

So my co-worker has been telling me for weeks that she has a "big heavy horsey book with lots of pictures" that she doesn't want, that she's gotta bring in for me. Something her hubby got through a magazine. She brings it in, and its the 2010 Stallion Register from the Blood horse.

MUCH better than the "Disney's Guide to famous movie ponies" or something similar that I was expecting. Cool! Now I can make fantasy breeding decisions to go with my fantasy racing stable . . .

Some day. I will have $ to do this, and I will be very educated. 8)

Great story.

Non horsey people are worth a second look if not a laugh. I'm reminded of the BRAVO Channel 2010 coverage of the KY Oaks. Donna Brothers was being interviewed by one of the male anchors, who apparently couldn't tell you the difference between a horse and a pig, and he asks: "Donna, how do the jockeys select what they are going to wear during the race?"

Donna expression was priceless as she turned beet red and then she explained why the jockeys wore the silks. Priceless. I hope ESPN returns to cover the Oaks next year. I had my fill of the "Real Housewives" conversation and the "cooking contest."

tell me about it. And I'm sick of explaining to people that No, RA will not/did not run in the Derby "again" this year, and why.

Heh, just the other day, I found myself explaining to a non-horsey friend why a trainer should not be fined anytime their horse loses a shoe during a race.

They shouldn't be, and wouldn't be, but my friend thought that a lost shoe was an indication of neglect/negligence.

I had to go through the same explanation, but the subject was Zenyatta
