Very interesting reading, especially Andrea Young of Sam Houston. Cites experience in other professional sports. Basketball and hockey with 41 home dates is the model she wants all racing to model itself after. Logic is that would equate to 12,300 races in total vs. the 50,000 currently being run.
How would that impact the commercial breeding market, owners, trainers, etc.? Lets assume average starts per horse at 7, and lets average 10 horses per race. 12,300 *10 /7= 17,571 would be the total number of horses to fill this requirement. Wow, a lot of horses standing around. Guess the days of 100+ books are through, 80% of the trainers and at least 50% of the owners- gone. I can only imagine the agricultural impact ripple (tidal wave)to the entire agricultural aspect of our industry. WOW.
Interesting how Sam Houston does not want to even run any dates for the coming year, yet she is excited about the future of racing?????? For her headline it should have been Top 40 under 40 who want to run slot parlors.
And these are our future leaders.
There were some other interesting ones, and many that appear to be highly competent and interested in building the industry. IMO not sure how she slipped in.
