Jolie's Halo

Postby Mahubah » Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:03 pm

Are there any eyewitnesses out there who can describe the conformation of Jolie's Halo? A very good racer, but I am wondering if he was as rough-looking as a lot of other good Halo-line horses have been.

To my way of thinking Jolie's Halo was NOT rough looking but rather a very masculine and handsome, undeniably robust and strongly-made with lots of bone, somewhat rugged-looking, solid individual. He was absolutely all that, and exuded it.

For what it's worth...some time ago I commented something to the affect that I felt Jolie's Halo daughters (which were somewhat few-and-far-between in the USA because of his sale (to Japan) early-on into his stud career) may be worth a close look.

I felt that way largely because many mares by Jolie's Halo that I saw seemed to take on their sire's robust physical type/prowess/strength; and many (if not most) of the foals I saw out of those mares (by JH) seemed to have plenty of body, bone, flesh and substance even when the sire(s) of the offspring leaned toward being a more thrifty/lighter type.

Best.

Respectfully

Hi FOS,
Just to reinforce that astute description, watch him win the 1991 Donn Handicap. He goes to the lead and the lights are out! TJ

Mahubah, FOS, a good friend of mine stands a son of Jolie's Halo in upstate New York named Comeonmom. The Thorougbred Database here has a decent photo of him, but not of Jolie, tell me what you think. I have a late foal 2yr old filly by him that is now growing like a weed and I sort of like her and she resembles him quite a lot, she is out of an Eastern Echo mare that I once raced.

Thanks for the description, FOS. Unfortunately, I was never lucky enough to see Jolie's Halo in the flesh, let alone in action, but from what's in print he was a scorcher at his best.

I used to co-own a Jolies Halo mare. She was bred by Arthur Appleton. She is still in Michigan and I bet her owner would love to sell her since the economy is so bad out here. I wanted to have her mated to a Storm Cat or AP Indy stallion but my co-owner insisted on mating her to her home stallion.
Her name is Tequila's Halo and she is on pedigree query.

Well, he was one of the front runners in the 92 BC Classic. Check it out on youtube some time.

LOL. How ironic is this? The mare I just mentioned is from the same family as Comeonmom too....His 4th dam is also her 5th dam. Weird.

Here are the last shots I've found of Jolie's Halo from when he stood in Japan.

Ooooh, thank you! I can see where his daughters would add a bit of leg to Put It Back's get, and Put It Back would tend to correct the buck knees and rather long pasterns that the photo suggests.
