zenyatta won again -------but there is something wrong with the world if the jockey on the number 4 horse --flores ---is not investigated and interrogated ..about his "line"-----his ride does not pass the smell test.

Just trying to pinch a length on the Champ straightening up ,it was a clean run to be honest and gave Smith something to think about. Much better than altering course at the eighth pole.

My take in this race is that I saw five other mares trying their darnest to make sure that Zenyatta did not lose.

You could see the others gave it their best shot. Nice try!

Well if their "darnest" was going a half in 50 and change that's a heck of a way to try.

And then slowing down further in the stretch. Even a snail would have passed them up.

Hi G,
Those horses were doing the best that they could....it just wasn't a good group. You witnessed Bejarano put up a heady ride trying to steal the race from Zenyatta....but she wouldn't have any of that. She won in a hand ride against a GR III sprinter trying to slow down the pace so as to carry her speed two turns. It was a good try and now that second horse is one of 17 other's who will use running second to Zenyatta as their claim to fame. TJ

I just wathced the reply. And I'm curious...
Why WOULD anyone want a speed race on the front end running against Zenyatta, when it is plain from every race she can run anyone down in the stretch. If it were my horse in that race, I'd likely try to save as much horse for the finish as I could knowing I had a freight train like her coming down the stretch with me. I think the whole race was very tactical on the other trainers/jocks part. And it proved somewhat effective as Rinterval battaled pretty hard to the bitter end, and Princess Taylor made a hard drive also for third.
In every race I've watched Zenyatta run, there are many horses that end up looking like seaside donkeys as she blows past them, decent horses that in any other arena would be considered worth their salt. She is just such a stellar mare that the rest pale in comparison. I think if Zenyatta wasn't on the scene this year, there are many other mares that she has devoured that would take the limelight for their own accomplishments, instead of being shadowed by hers.

Hey Karen,

Zenyatta can run anything down, anywhere, starting from the gate, or the parking lot!

I cringe to think of what racing will be like without the 'freight train' (as Shannon says, great post by the way, Shannon) in racing any longer.

She is a horse who is still having fun. Rachel is a horse who is not. Keep the Big Z going for another year, she's just getting better. How can anyone say anything about her, the only mare to blow by horses and WIN the BREEDERS CUP CLASSIC the way she did. I do not doubt she will do the same again this year as many have said she is actually better on dirt...wait did they say....BETTER?!? Keep 'er going, that train ain't runnin' out of track for a long time yet.......Mike Smith..come on ride that train....another year please! Z does not want to be stuck out in the pasture all fat an pregnant every year! She's not that kind of horse, just isn't.
We will NEVER see another Ruffian......
