Versatile mare

Postby wilf » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:46 pm

I was just thinking the other day about a 9yr old mare that I have who is a great looker and should be bred next spring and my thoughts turned to how I could interest a breeder into giving her a chance as she has ground out over $100,000 the hard way and even though she is 16.2 hands and her 2nd dam made $940,000 she is still hard to place. Then it occurred to me that she has the distinction of having won at 7 different tracks and surfaces. My mare has won on the turf, on the Presque Isle Tapeta, on the Mountaineer hard highway, on the Tampa beach sand maintrack , on the Thistledown sandy loam, on the Woodbine Polytrack and the Hoosier maintrack. Now that's a versatile mare.!

And for the $64,000 question...what is her name?

Hi Wilf,
Winning at all those different tracks and surfaces sure is a positive in this day and age....but 2nd generation Love Sign! That was a super mare who could do it all, kinda like your mare:>)....She won the GR I Beldame two years in a row as a 3 and 4YO....when it was run at 1 1/4 miles.....she won at Saratoga and showed her versatility by winning the Test and the Alabama.....trained by Sidney Watters of Hoist The Flag fame. I have to wonder how many mare's have Love Sign in the 2nd generation. It's hard to understand how anyone would balk at breeding any stallion to her? TJ
