gelding notification
we have a two-year old gelding in training that i've noticed is listed as a colt in his workouts. i was poking around the JC website and noticed a gelding notification option. is it the owner's responsibility to report to the JC when a colt has been gelded? would he otherwise be entered as a colt when he begins to race? thanks.[/i]

Hi James,
If the horse is stabled at the track his foal paper's would be on file in the racing secretary's office. The owner or trainer simply needs to write a note stating the horse has been gelded and bring it to the office, they will update his foal certificate. If he is not stabled at the track where you are going to race, call the appropriate racing secretary's office and ask the proper procedure to report a new gelding. TJ
Yes you should report with JC. The online format is easy to do. In California you need to report to Racing Office. The following is from an Overnight at Golden Gate Fields and is typically seen in most Ca. Overnights:
"ATTENTION HORSEMEN: WHEN PAPERS ARE REGISTERED IN THE RACING OFFICE,
MAKE SURE THE SEX OF YOUR HORSE CORRESPONDS WITH THE SEX ON THE
PAPERS. THE MINIMUM FINE IS $1,000. ALL GELDINGS MUST BE REPORTED TO
THE RACING OFFFICE *PRIOR* TO ENTRY TIME"

What I usually do is go to the Jockey Club's website, report the gelding of the colt, and print out the "submitted" form. I take that, with the vet bill, to the racing secretary/steward's office with the horse's papers, and THEY mark the papers appropriately. They will sometimes keep a copy of the JC form proving that I reported the alteration.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
