Anyone use the "Tie-forward" procedure for displac

Postby tbrace » Sun Dec 12, 2010 10:03 am

Anyone use the "Tie-forward" procedure for displacement, lately?

The vet journals are saying it has become more effective.

Anyone tried it on their racehorse in the last year or two?

Thanks for your help!

No I have not used it recently but did use it not quite three years ago. Filly won the 1X second time out after the surgery. It worked well but like most of them didn't last very long. We got maybe 5-6 months out of it.

Thanks, Laurie. I have heard they can be temporary.

Do you recall about how much the procedure costs, roughly?

I am thinking about $1500. Not that you asked for opinions but if I were starting from scratch I would not start with the tie forward. The llewelyn is a very good procedure that costs less and has a much shorter recovery period. That is the first step after the equipment changes fail in my opinion. Same filly won the MSW first time out after the llewelyn.

Laurie, Thanks! I do appreciate your experience and opinions on the various procedures. Hopefully equipment change will do it.

what causes you to think the horse is "displacing".

RR,

The trainer seems to think the horse is displacing briefly during end of races, based on the fact that she is stopping, and the jock hears noise in the airways for a brief period.

Do you have other thoughts of causes?
