Hello all,
I am currently cleaning out my bookshelves and packing in preparation for a move, and I have a small collection of Thoroughbred Times magazines (3-4 years worth) as well as some other horse-related magazines. What do you guys do with your old magazines when you're done with them? Do you donate them somewhere or just throw them away? I hate to throw them away if they would be of use to others.
Thanks.
Old issues of Thoroughbred Times - what to do with them?

A few years ago, a friend of mine was in a VA hospital, and I found out that that could always use magazines there. I started taking all my magazines with me and leaving them there. After a few weeks, I heard back that the horse racing magazines were really appreciated by a few of the men. They had a lot of People and US, and the men weren't interested in modern celebrities, but they loved the racing issues. I'm not sure that the hospital would like 4 years of them dumped on them, but the last 3 months would probably be very welcome.

That is a great question. I recently went through my grandfather's house prepping it to put on the market and found tons of the Thoroughbred Record from the 70's. I just can't bare to throw them away. They have pics of some of the greatest at the time .. I even found one or two with Secretariat on the front page
Others are Nijinsky II, Roberto, Forego winning the Widener, Ruffian "Reigns" - 1975 NYRA photo award winner, Bill Shoemakerk, Dr. Fager (Febraury 8, 1978), Spectacular Bid, a great pic of Olin Gentry and Roberto, Genuine Risk - outruns Smart Angle in the Demoiselle, and many, many more. If anyone is interested in certain horse let me know and I will go through them for you. They are great memorabila, however, some are in better condition than others.

The Ag library at SWT (I'll not give-up) would probably like them if you decide to donate them. Get 'em Bobcats.

Try it you will like it.

Roger, LOL on the Bobcats
I don't really want to get rid of them but just being boxed up is you can't enjoy them. There are a few that I would love to frame, but then the question is frame the entire magazine or just the front page? If they are worth anything then by removing the front page the value has gone down ... I am so confused lol If you are in town let me know if you want to come and look through them.
Star, thanks for the idea. I will check ebay out and see if any are out there.
