Zenyatta site girl talk

Wow. I heard it mentioned in the Bloodhorse that the mating today was described by "Zenyatta" on her site . . . and I had to look.
Oh brother. I don't know. Just my opinion, but how silly!
thoughts on this type of PR?
I guess it's harmless enough. But don't tell me they really did "her hair and nails" for the breeding day! Not for looks, they didn't, anyway.

Oh come on Toccet02 - cut Zen some slack - even my lowly mares were groomed and cleaned and looked "perfect" before going to the breeding shed ;) After all, they needed to look good for their men  In all seriousness, I really did groom my mares up before sending them to the shed each and every time they went. I think it spoke of the professionalism of my farm if my mares were groomed. Certainly, I saw mares at the farms that were NOT "pretty" for their date and I personally found it an embarrassment for the mare's owner, but that is just my opinion! Perhaps they didn't thinik it was important enough to clean them up before sending them off, but mares are usually pretty nasty especially if they've recently foaled so a good cleaning and grooming is pretty essential I think before sending them to the shed. I noticed Zen didn't mention the whole washing detail part of her experience in her diary post or putting on the booties (which my mares hated with a passion ;)

Well, true; the farm would want her to look nice as a sign of professionalism . . but the site made it sound like she was all set for her date and was "poodling" as we used to say.
Anyway---I have read some of those posts and noticed the chirpy manner . . . and wondered what they would say when she was bred. Now I know! I can't believe they mentioned the "one jump". A lot of pre-adolescent little kids are asking their mommies what that means tonight . . .

Might as well teach them with horses ;) And you might as well get in practice for those two little angels that you've got. Imagine how I had to explain to my granddaughters why the foals daddy's didn't live at the farm with them and their mommies? And why the mom's only visited the dad's once (sometimes twice a year) .... oh such wonderful conversations you can have with the little ones when you have a breeding farm :D Guess now I can just send them to the "diary"

Yeah, well, in this house, Daddy said "he's gonna block the website."

It's a kind of adult version of "play like"!

I think before you bail on this issue, consider that Zenyatta has over 66,000 fans on Facebook alone! Every single time a new diary post is made, hundreds, literally, respond on her web page, plus hundreds more either like or respond on her Facebook page. Consider that several other connections of horses have followed suit. Uncle Mo has his page, and "he posts" on his diary. It's a fun fantasy type of experience....it's a way for fans, who otherwise have no way to make a connection with their favorite equine sport's figure, to "tune in" so to speak.

I think, too, that part of the enjoyment, at least in the case of Zenyatta, is her fans just don't want to let go of her. She captured the hearts of millions of people. She is teaching people now through transitioning into another phase of her career a lot about the backside of the sport. It really is hard to discount the total dedication that the Mosses and the Shirreffs have had in staying in touch with Zenyatta's fans. Make no mistake, it's a lot of added work on top of their no doubt busy schedules, and yet, they continue. Why? They could just phase it out and "move on", but they don't. There is absolutely no explanation other than they truly love the horse and they truly do love and appreciate all her fans who have made her a phenomenon.

By the way, it was Zenyatta herself who drew people to her...as Priscilla Clark so eloquently pointed out, it was "the incredible light of her being as much as the thrill of her races that got us dancing. Zenyatta was transformative."

Her connections responded and built on what she started, and in doing so, have pointed the industry toward an untapped pr bonanza for their horses and the sport.

Several very crusty sports writers and industry bloggers are just as besotted with Zenyatta....if you doubt, read some of Steve Haskins blogs and his recent "Visit with Zenyatta", complete with pictures and narrative. Brian Zipse, Bill Shanklin, Joe Drape (NYTimes)....you would be surprised who occasionally shows up on Zenyatta's Diary on her web site to respond and join in a harmless bit of fantasy!

Zenyatta is the most positive thing to happen to the sport in decades.

Not all fans or potential fans really want to know all the fine points of practical horse management. If they have fun with Zenyatta's "diary", great. 8)

That's true . . . I have a "broken sentimental bone" as my husband puts it . . . and I assumed that "crusty old horsemen" as you put it, more or less, would think these posts were totally dumb. But I guess it's kind of wonderful that many of them seem so into it.
AND, it is great that it slyly teaches people the details of horse care.

I rolled my eyes and closed the window on the zen website when I read that one of the posters "cried tears of joy" when she read Zenyatta was covered..

People believing that the live cover between "Bernie" and Zen was romantic just have not witnessed the 2 minute act and would be astounded to realize she is just another mare on the book and 4 people were paid minimum wage just to make sure it got put in right.

also.. Rachel Alexandra's facebook update of "morning sickness" the day after she got covered about made my eyes want to vomit..

As they say about everybody having different likes and dislikes: that's what makes horseracing!

ANYONE taking their own mare or witnessing a cover (there was a tour at Three Chimneys last year when our mare was covered and I said I really didn't want her on display during her intimate moment ;) ) can in NO WAY EVER say there is anything romantic about it! She may have gone to the prom but she sure didn't get a new dress, get any flowers or get taken out to dinner

I think what Team Z has done and continues to do is wonderful and I think her diary is cute and fun reading. It does offer some insightful information for people who know nothing about racing and that is a good thing - but honestly, some of the comments are over the top and some of her fans need to get a reality check

Yes, the diary can be silly, but if putting up with it is the price for staying in touch with Zenyatta, I am more than willing to pay it! When is the last time you knew anything about a racing star after they retired, especially a mare. Unless she or one of her offspring go through the ring, you don't hear anything about them.

It is kind of silly but I like keeping up with Z. Just don't read the comments.
