Sibling Question

Postby madelyn » Fri Mar 11, 2011 5:30 am

After a hard look at things right now, I feel I NEED to sell a coming 3 year old filly (yeah, I know the JC says she is 3, but she isn't yet).. but anyhow, she is ground broke, saddled and ready to start work, 16.1h at least and related to Sunday Holiday (G1 SP filly).. the question is HOW Related? They were both out of my mare, Militant Maid, and by stallions out of Storm Cat mares. Are they 3/4 sibs? 5/8? What is the right relation to reference in her ad? What would be a realistic price? The filly's name is Maid to Rock.

In TWH terms a 3/4 has 3 of 4 grandparents the same. I don't think they account much for great grandparents. Of course Tb's could be different, I really have never understood why a half sibling only counts when the dam is the same, or maybe 2 out of 4 grandparents are the same. Is there a reasoning behind why sires aren't considered to make half siblings? I realize sires have tons of progeny at any given time, and it may be easier to say half sibling means same dam, but still it's one of the 2 that made the end result. :?:
Ditto on the name. Not only did you do my ultimate anti-pet peeve by including parentage names but did it very cleverly! :D
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

Mathematically she is 5/8, but I think I would say half to G1 SP, Sunday Holiday and additionally both are also by sires out of Storm Cat mares. Figure out how much you would you pay for her and go from there to establish your price. No one knows her better than you!

A half sister by stallions with the same maternal grand sire is not a major factor IMO. I would think that fact would be a minimal selling point. A half to a graded placed filly is your biggest positive. Her size is a positive. A ground broke 3 year old by an unproven stallion is a negative. If she is a good physical specimen $2-7000 perhaps.
