Bloodstock agent quote

Postby aurora » Fri Apr 01, 2011 12:31 pm

From the Richland Hills farm website:

Bloodstock agent Mike Ryan said ....

TEXT DELETED FOR BREVITY.....

.......... “Dynaformer is a great example of the dominance I was talking about. I think I have seen two gray horses by Dynaformer. That’s it. He just stamps them all the same.”

What am I missing here? There about 11 or 12 gray Dynaformers that I know of.

For anyone that missed the point. All horses conform to the rules of color genetics. Provided a grey mare is heterozygous for the grey gene the offspring will have a 50% chance of being grey when she is bred to Dynaformer. The bloodstock agent inplied that Dynaformer somehow doesn't conform to this rule.

The "bloodstock agent" implies that he or she has very minimal understanding of genetics. The grey gene, in this case, would come from the dam, is a dominant gene, and could not be "overwritten" by Dynaformer. This is something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the stallion, in this case.
