Mare Magic

Postby BillB » Tue Apr 19, 2011 1:56 pm

Has anybody used Mare Magic on nervous fillies?? Its Rasberry leaves and does not test..supposed to even out their heat cycles etc.
I noticed a big difference in her training....walks out the track instead of jogging in place...she does not throw her head as much going out & coming back....walks the shedrow instead of prancing around.

I thought of trying it....I was in the barn one night when a horse was claimed......the old owner came over with a bag of Mare Magic gave it to the trainer and said she really really needs this.

For racing...I was concerned it along with B-1 Cal Mag...might be too much of a dulling effect?? Considering either backing of the Mare Magic a week out or keeping her on it & reducing some of the others? I think they work differently but the combination worried me?

Was wondering if there was any experience with this

talking to a vet and they would probably suggest regumate to stop the fillies cycle. Some fillies are in pain during ovulation. I would try the mare magic first as it is probably less expensive as well.

I don't have personal experience with it but....

I would talk to a track vet before using it though.

I know so little about the racing world as to be generally afraid to post anything here, but I use Mare Magic at our barn on event/show horses. I find more focus, less discomfort, and no change in overall performance. I find it works like Regamate but is easier on the system and checkbook. I wouldn't advise taking a horse off and back on it, however--that really messes with their hormones and causes cycle hell. Commit to it for a whole season, or not. Put another way, the kind of juice it takes out of them does not seem to me to be the same kind of juice that is positive to performance.

I've used Raspberry leaves with great success before for mare-ish mares.
