Nuclear Wayne

Postby Shawklit Won » Tue May 31, 2011 6:47 pm

Nuclearv Wayne is a son of Mineshaft and has won 4 races, including 3 allowance races. His broodmare sire is Storm Cat.

On 4/18/11, Nuclear Wayne was entered in a $4,000. claiming race at Finger Lakes, after never being entered in a claiming race anywhere. Of course, he was claimed, and finished 2nd in the race.

I was wondering; why would his connections enter him in a $4,000. claimer at Finger Lakes? He must be worth more than that just as a stallion prospect, with Mineshaft, A P Indy, Mr. Prospector, and Storm Cat up close in his pedigree.

A stallion with three allowance wins and his value, I think, are debatable. I've seen several stakes horse with earnings exceeding $200k entered for $4k. Then again, how many times have I seen an unraced stallion sell for 20k? Far too many.

Prior to this year, Nuclear Wayne had 11 races, 2 MSW, 2 stakes races, and 7 allowance races. NW had won 4, was 2nd in 4, and I think was 3rd in 1 race. His races were mostly in places like Monmouth, Belmont, Keenland, and the Fair Grounds. He seemed like a pretty decent racehorse.

I am still surprised that he would be entered for a tag of $4,000. at Finger Lakes. The owner, no doubt, wanted to dump him, but he probably could have entered him for $20,000. at one of the bigger tracks and accomplished the same thing.

Anyway, sorry to see it happen. I think that he was a good racehorse. Hope that things work out for him.

Take a look at the relationship between who claimed the horse and the trainer who entered the horse in the race. Maybe it wasn't arms length. Don't know if that's the case, just saying more dishonest things have been done in horse racing.

The trainer at Finger Lakes was not Nuclear Wayne's usual trainer, but a local Finger Lakes trainer, so I guess that entering him in a $4,000. claiming race at Finger Lakes was the owner's decision.

My guess is that something is wrong with the horse. However, Nuclear Wayne did finish 2nd in the race, albeit a $4,000. claiming race.

Hope I am wrong, and Nuclear Wayne goes on to win dozens of races.
