Help Watching Races From Colonial Downs

Postby Patuxet » Sun Jul 03, 2011 8:48 am

Tomorrow I have a filly making her first start at Colonial Downs. I'm in Newport RI where I naively thought I could watch and wager on the race at the Newport Grand, but apparently it doesn't receive or subscribe to that simulcast signal.

I have only the most basic of cable connections and do not subscribe to any racing ones.

I've heard there are online sites which stream live racing and I wonder how I could connect to one of those and feed that signal into the larger screen of the TV.

I looked at the Twin Spires site which seems to require a sizeable amount of wagering before one can view races.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Please feel free to PM me instead of cluttering up the Board, although this information might prove useful to others who are as technologically challenged as I.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats Pautuxet - hope your filly runs well. What's her name?
if I talk my wife into going down I'll root for her.

Video streaming online is your best and maybe only prospect. Unbelievably, I don't think HRTV nor TVG had any Cnl coverage. They cover some pretty obscure tracks- but as far as I know, Cnl is a no show. Even the video online from Cnl is not available today on my Twinspires account - but that may be just us poor losers in Va. I think there was some exclusive deal that somebody cut that limits access to the Va signal, ensuring isolation and mediocrity.

You could also try darkhorsebet.com - tell them I sent you. I think you only have to sign up to view - there isn't really a minimum to open an account, although to fund with a credit card has a minimum of $25. They have Colonial.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Thanks everyone! xpressbet.com worked just fine for me.

Toast o'The Tavern finished 8th beaten by 8 3/4 lengths, on July 4, 2011, at COLONIAL DOWNS in Race 9.

It looked to me -- and to my buddy Jerry O'Driscoll -- the former Irish jockey -- that when she started to make a move, another horse cut in front of her, Sudsey ducked in toward the rail and lost her momentum.

My trainer, Kathleen O'Connell wrote: "She ran a little green and she cannot afford to lose momentum. She will be better going even longer but it was not a bad effort. She will probably need a stronger rider. She ate up and seems fine this am. :)"

once you're logged into your xpressbet account, you can click on the track (colonial in this case) and watch the replays, even from previous days. they offer head-on replays, which i found really useful when our 3-year old ran poorly last week. by watching the head-on shot, i could see where he was totally taken out of the race early on. its a nice feature.
