Woodbine cancels racing

Postby Maureen » Thu Jul 21, 2011 1:21 pm

Woodbine Racetrack has cancelled racing for the Thursday card due to the extreme heat and humidity we are experiencing here in Southern Ontario. It is 100F with a humidty equivilant to 125F! Good for them for putting the welfare of the horses and the jocks first!

Glad they recognized it was TOO HOT!

I've seen a couple racehorses go down from heat exaustion - not a pretty sight.

races are being cancelled all over the place..

As a side note seems like transporting in this heat could also be a problem..
Horses side by side in an aluminium box with windows allowing 100 degree air into the box ??

I had to cancel one yesterday. Hopefully we'll get a break next week

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

Ya I agree Griff - shipping any significant distance in this heat has to be extremely taxing on horses. I can't stand having to drive in a vehicle without a/c, can't imagine how the horses feel
