Whole Lotta Shak'n Going On.

Earth quake in VA? It was 5.9 centered in Mineral, VA. That's in Louisa, County where our own Joltman lives. Mineral is about an hour northeast of us.

I was south of Charlottesville hauling some hay back and I missed it. Not because it didn't shake the earth. I was so stupid, I thought the road needed re-surfacing because the truck was all over the road. When I got home I still didn't know it had occurred until my wife told me the quake rattled the shelves, the cats headed for cover, the dogs howled, and the horses raced around in the paddocks. Fortunately, the house is standing and so are the out buildings.

And here I am thinking that the VA Department of Transportation should get off there butts and fix the roads. I wasn't good at earth studies and geology anyway.

we felt it here...in the Bronx and my family in Manhattan. I was sitting on floor with my back against the couch, playing with my girls, and there was a quick rhythmic push-and-pull of the couch against my back. I thought the girls were doing it, but their movements didn't match and they're too little anyway, and then I saw the recliner was rocking with no one near it.

My father called, quite worried - it was felt way up there in St. Catharines, Ontario. Not here in Louisville, though.

It was a trip for us - you could hear it coming then the ground shook the building where I was for 30 sec or so. Been a few significant aftershocks since, which one now recognizes for what they are.

I had been in town, but came back home and our 3 were seemingly unaffected by it all, although I'll bet they were a little hyper when it was happening. Reports around here were that many animals started acting strangely, anxious, etc. right before it hit.

now round 2 - the hurricane? thanks for your concern

I felt it too. I thought someone had accidently bumped into my truck while I was sitting in a parking lot, it lasted close to a minute! I live north of Toronto, Ontario.

They are probably laughing at the fact that neither your wife nor your girlfriend were at home with you when the quake errupted. Must have been lonely hiding under the bed by yourself.
