Rapid Redux

This guy is going for 17 IN A ROW tonight at CT. He's run all over the place, and the connections have spotted him well.

These are the kinds of horses that can also gain a following locally. Yet CT had no visible news on its website (5 months old stuff) or Facebook page. Facebook page does a good job of promoting its slots, not much on racing. Same old, same old - missed opportunity to promote the real sport on the local level.

Best wishes for a safe and successful trip.

Sometimes you wonder if some tracks have ever heard of marketing. Saratoga has always been big at marketing, and if RR was going for 17 there, you can bet it would be blazoned everywhere in the local media.

I lived in the Albany area back in the 80s-90s when a horse named Fourstardave was running. Saratoga was his favorite track and he won allowances and stakes races there every summer for 8 years! Whenever he ran, it was all over the local media before the race, and the crowds at the track would spike because all his fans (myself included) would come up to watch him run.

There would also be "horsey interest" pieces in the media about FSD's idiosyncracies, his Saratoga winning streak, his favorite stall at the Oklahoma training track, even his new career as a pony horse after his retirement, etc.

More tracks need to do that kind of thing when they do get one of these special horses, but many don't bother. I suppose they figure claimers or allowance horses just aren't "worth it" but they are totally discounting the importance of courting a fanbase for individuals (it sure works for NASCAR).

Dave was a nice horse who won some big $$$ but on the scale of things at Saratoga, he wouldn't be mistaken for the big names running in the Whitney or the Travers. For Saratoga Race Track, however, he was probably worth more in publicity and good will than any of those Whitney or Travers winners during his years there.

Fourstardave is buried at Saratoga Race Track, BTW.

He posted in # 17 last night and the CTown CEO said they had tried very hard to get the DC and Norther VA papers to cover the race
