South CA training track

Postby oleos93 » Sat Feb 11, 2012 7:24 pm

Can any one tell me if there are any southern CA private training facilities that allows trainers to bring in their horses either long or short term or even daily, and rent a few stalls. Not anything like San Luis Rey Downs that is complex to be able to do recorded works ect....just something low key.

If so can you tell me more and where they are located and if you have had any experience with them. Web site they may have that sort of thing.

Licensed CA trainers only can train at San Luis Rey Downs. Farms have stopped allowing trainers to train because of liability insurance cost. They can't control what trainers and their employees do and that can have a detrimental cost impact on the training center, horses and other employees. The only one I knew of, just stopped allowing it.

Galway Downs might still be allowing it, if still open. However, I wouldn't train a racehorse there because there are no Vets or emergency help available that I know of. Mostly used by sport horse people. Unless you are just looking for brief stop over and jog only facilities, I wouldn't use Galway Downs.

I don't understand how that is any different then any facility that allows trainers to come in and bring their own clients and employees. Or even a boarding facility, they all come with the possibility of liability.

I guess what you are saying maybe is that the insurers have a higher rate on race training then they do any other discipline?

Very interesting though.

It is because injuries in race training are much higher than in other equine activities.
