Daydream Believer was my first record ever bought. He was far too young.

My sister and I watch the TV show all the time. He was probably a lot of young girls' first crushes, including mine.

Agreed. I am not in the horse business, but I met him, too. :(

RIP, Davy.

I knew him professionally many moons ago in Hollywood. A great guy and committed to the sport. He actually trained as a jockey at one point in his career.

Interesting that he and and David Cassidy, the other teenage heartthrob of the period, both became interested in Thoroughbreds.

Cassidy married a woman with money and his father was a big gambler, as I recall.

Davey Jones was a true horse person, from what I've read.

David Cassidy is a longtime Thoroughbred owner-breeder and a passionate promoter of racing. He purchased his first Thoroughbred at Saratoga in 1973. He didn't marry his second wife, a wealthy South African sportswoman and horse breeder until 1984. They were divorced the next year.

David Cassidy is a summer resident of Saratoga Springs, where he delivered the 2005 Keynote Address at the Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. At the time he was reported to own 28 horses -- broodmares, weanlings, yearlings, and horses in training. His son Beau shares his father's passion. As a teenager in the summer at Saratoga Beau cleaned stalls and walked hots.

I worked with David's father, Jack Cassidy, a talented Tony-winning star of Broadway musicals. Jack certainly had his demons, but as far as I know gambling wasn't one of them.

I stand corrected. I believe I confused JC with the husband of DC's stepmom, after JC. Marty Ingels?

I seem to recall seeing David and Meryl long after 1985. In any event, my point was that David Jones seemed much more connected to the horse (rather than the industry).

Shammy:

I heard the same report. A statement from the family stated he died "surrounded by his beloved horses".
