NBC PLEASE!
This is not a freaking fashion show. We don't care what these idiots think.

DITTO. I couldn't be more disgusted. I do not care what the "beautiful people" are thinking or wearing; either focus on the horses or talk to some real horsemen and horsewomen, please. And spare me footage of a ninny who hasn't sense enough to stay out of range of a stallion's teeth, either -- he doesn't give a hoot that she's got a picture of his son on her cute little camera, assuming he can even see the image (which was probably in the blind space in front of his nose) and recognize it as a horse. Served her right that she got nipped.

If horse racing is to survive it must reach out to new fans. If network surveys show that younger, fashion-oriented people are a good target, then by all means it should include them in their presentation. The rest of us are equipped with remote control mute and I suggest that's how to handle this intrusion.

Let them turn on MTV or Bravo then, they can get this crap 24/7. NBC is playing to an audience that is at the mall today.

There may be a few people tuning in to check out the hats and the celebs, but anyone who's that serious about fashion coverage or celebrity drivel can find plenty else and probably is. All this coverage is doing is screaming that horse racing is of no significance as a sporting event.

I have multiple friends and family who watch for the fashion and the celebs there. Just like most in the infield, the racing is secondary to the pomp and circumstance (and partying) of the event.
You can't bitch about a dying sport and no new fans and then complain when the coverage is attempting to be accessible and interest demographics that normally would not care to watch or attend the derby.

We have enough morons in the sport now, why should we try to attract more? NBC is consistantly at the bottom of the pile in ratings and we know why. They are tone deaf to the American people. They are in tune with the Obama administration though.

I pretty much ignored NBC's coverage when I flipped to see them talking to Eli Manning and his hosting of SNL tonight. Whatever. I watched most of the coverage on HRTV and only switched back to NBC when it came time for the race.
