Could have had the superfecta on the Derby and then had a heart attack when the payoff came out...

Seriously, it is very likely completely unrelated and the backside at Churchill is no hallowed ground. It is like the backside og every track or carnival around, with it's very colorful characters...

It wasn't four stalls away, it was four barns away -- quite a difference.

I know I am running into a lot of media that say something totally different. One says four stalls away and other says four barns away. It's like some news papers don't know anything about what they are reporting. My mom had sent me a message asking if I knew and I said no, so I googled death at churchill downs and the article said four stalls away from I'll Have Another. So my and I were like " WOW"- What happened here and so close tooo.....it was on Yahoo news three hours ago.
They really let people walk into the barns without taking their information?

Now Bloomberg.com says that its a Hispanic man that didn't work at the track and foul play is suspected. But they are not a racing site.

The backside has literally thousands of people go through just the one gate everyday. They look at the license - owner, trainer, worker, etc. They don't "take information" at the gate. I got teed off when I would head in with my little group of family and friends to go to a backside Derby party and there would be loiterers waiting at the gate to tag into a group. I would make the guard keep them out as in "they are NOT with me" - but I saw a lot of people back there who were not "with" anyone at all - no horse connections, not at a trainer's party, etc. Someday Churchill might tally up all of the beer and food they DIDN'T sell because of the party crashers roaming around the backside stealing food and beverages from the various parties...

i would bet this is a homicide. someone happens to get murdered at the track the one day of the year that they know everyone will be busy doing their own thing at night.

Not to make light of the passing of the deceased, but this sounds just like a Dick Francis novel.
